Inhalation Sedation (RA) aftercare
Our aim is to make your treatment at the practice as comfortable as possible. We realise some patients are anxious about treatment and one of the ways to help is to offer a form of sedation called “relative analgesia”.
What is RA?
This is a technique where patients breathe a mixture of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) and oxygen through a small mask which fits over the nose. The mixture is carefully adjusted until you feel relaxed and comfortable.
Will I still need an injection?
With most procedures yes, but particularly with children’s first teeth an injection may not be needed. However, if you are nervous of injections, you will find that with RA sedation you will be much more relaxed about having an injection.
Can anyone have RA sedation?
This is a very safe technique suitable for most patients- we will check to see if you are suitable for sedation.
Instructions Pre and Post treatment
You must not have eaten a heavy meal in the two hours prior to treatment. If you are nervous about treatment you are advised to bring a friend or relative- you will be fully recovered after 30 minutes however if you are driving, we may advise you to wait in the waiting area a little longer to make sure you can drive safely.
